Sharepoint is powerful for managing your working documents (WIP) and your archives. But when it comes to collaborating with your partners, your IT department is reluctant to open it to the public for security reasons, your management fears that financial information will be inadvertently made accessible, etc. Additionally, Sharepoint's features are meager in terms of traceability, monitoring and workflows (eg. approvals). For those reasons, collaborative and/or document control platforms are then set up.
